Our usual request is to ask you to do one duty night every 2 weeks where you will be on standby between 7pm and 6am. This does NOT mean you are out all night. You will stay at home as normal and then IF we get a call the duty controller will call you out and advise where to collect and deliver to. If we get another call that night we normally ask another rider to do the run. Majority of runs come in the evening time rather than morning i.e. between 7pm and Midnight.
If you can only commit to less time or even more nights, then simply let the co-ordinator know. Similarly if you are on a strange work rota please also contact us and we can arrange how we can fit Bloodrunners around your work commitments.
As a duty rider there are no major commitments but we do ask that if you cannot do any scheduled night you contact the duty co-ordinator in good time so that cover may be arranged. We are all volunteers and have jobs and families so appreciate people have other things before the charity.
Health & Safety, Route training and reflective jackets will be provided to all new members.
Remember - if you join and then find its not for you - simply leave us. Its worth a try and you have nothing to lose.
Before becoming operational ALL New members must attend a route training morning and a GMP Training course. If you are not a holder of an advanced riding qualification you will be required to have a short observation of your skills which will be incorporated into the route training.
All we ask is for you to meet the following requirements:-
1) Held a Full Driving Licence for the category of vehicle you intend to use for a minimum of 1 year
2) A Reliable, Roadworthy vehicle
3) A clean driving licence with max 3 points
4) Insurance cover for Bloodrunner duties (this is normally provided free by insurers. Please contact us for further info)
Please visit our downloads section and download an application form. If you have any questions let me know and one of our committee team will revert with an answer as soon as we can. Contact us
" Help us today as you may need us tomorrow "
As well as Riding / Driving we also need people to assist in admin, fundraising and manning the duty phone.
If you can assist in any of these (or you have other ideas how you can assist) please contact us for further information.
